Fiji weather radar upgrade

SCOPE: Upgrade of Nadi Weather Radar Tower

Fabrication of metal work for tower upgrade.  This consisted of the fabrication of steel strengthening sections as well as the fabrication of a new 4.6metre diameter platform.  Once fabricated, steel strengthening sections, new platform and tools and equipment were then shipped to Lautoka, Fiji and taken by road to the radar site next to Nadi airport.  Once on site, our first task was to prepare the base of the tower to be strengthened, which involved grinding back paintwork to weld the strengtheners too.  Each strengthener is 180mm wide x 4400mm high.  We then installed all vertical and horizontal strengtheners.  Once completed, we then lifted the new platform up approximately 16 metres and bolted this to the existing platform.  The new radar dome and radar were installed and the job was completed.
